In prison for a crime he did not commit

Heard a story like this? I’m sure many of you have.

When Emmy left his country for Europe, he knew there would be many challenges. He didn’t know anyone in the country he was headed to so it was quite scary. But he didn’t imagine that what was a lifetime dream for him would become a nightmare.

Few weeks after he arrived, he met some other Nigerian boys. He was eager to make friends from home because it was pretty lonely so he went out of his way to be extra friendly with these guys. One day, one of them invited him to hang out at their house and happily, Emmy went. Only he didn’t realize it was a set up. At least, that is what he believes.

When he got to the house, there were a few other guys there as well. After a short time, the new ‘friend’ and host excused himself, saying he needed to run a few errands and would be back shortly. Not long after, the police raided the house and arrested those who could not run fast enough. Drug charges were thrown at them and it was then that Emmy realized that the guys were drug dealers.

The law didn’t take long and before he could get his bearings, he was in jail where he has been for some years now, with a few more to go. Of course, he pleaded his innocence but no one paid attention and the language barriers didn’t help him either. He tried but could not get in touch with the guy who owned the house they were arrested in. Later, they found out that the guy had fled the country. So right now, he’s serving time – for a crime he didn’t commit.  That’s the story Emmy tells

This is a classical story of how young Nigeria jjc end up in jail on foreign countries. Sad thing is that the young ones aspiring to do an "Andrew" do not learn from such stories.
