Miracle: Surviving a plunge in the water when you can’t swim

Inset: Shola and his rescued Toyota Sienna

That is exactly what happened with Shola Oladimeji, a devout Christian, when his Toyota Sienna bus crashed through the bars of the Third mainland bridge in Lagos and plunged several feet into the lagoon below.

Shola Oladimeji, who cannot swim, struggled to stay afloat in the water, lifting himself twice to the surface but getting pulled back in. Luckily, his third attempt to the surface of the water made him visible to divers who came to his rescue.

According to him, he has no idea how his accident happened as he was not drunk, tired or even speeding. Long story short, he made it out of the lagoon alive and believes it was an act of God that saved him. Considering the odds of being thrown off that bridge added to his inability to swim, his story is definitely a modern day miracle.

Full interview with Shola is available on every major Nigerian news website
