This is why I love my neighbors

“I moved into my neighborhood less than two years ago: the environment is serene and it’s got everything a family needs – affordable restaurants, fast food places, good markets with adequate parking, relative safety and clean environment. I liked it then but now, I love it for I discovered its best feature – good neighbors.

Being a small neighborhood, most faces were familiar. While many are not necessarily friends, we share common things – church, kids schools, stores, restaurants, gyms, etc. So, when we run into one another, the friendly ones say hi and the ‘not so friendly’ pass on by. 

Not long ago, one of our more friendly neighbors got blessed with a baby boy, seven years after they wedded. Sadly, about three months after, the man (husband) died. And that was when I saw the miracle of good neighbors. They came out in droves, flocking to the widow’s house to keep her company. They prayed, sang, and shared fun stories and jokes; and when many left for their homes around 9pm, a few (also neighbors) would stay put until midnight when she went to bed. 

This simple gesture was an amazing thing to watch. Very happily, these neighbors provided support and comfort to another in their time of need. They were not her family, many were not even her close friends but all stood to mourn with her. They loved her when she needed it most. I was humbled and honestly, I hope I never have cause to move away for it seems I’ve found the better version of Wisteria lane.”
