He hired people to act as family so he could marry his girlfriend

“When my brother came to introduce his fiancé to the family, we all freaked out. She was much older than him, evidently weathered and didn’t seem particularly refined. We could not understand it – my brother was young, handsome and doing okay financially. It was a strange combination and it made us suspicious. There had to be more and when we confronted him privately but he insisted there wasn’t and asked that we support his decision. We called out all her flaws – how she was not particularly pretty and how much older she was, and looked, than him but he insisted that she was his choice and we had to accept it. We refused and threats were exchanged.

As with tradition, my brother needed family to go with him to his future bride’s family to fulfill all the traditional marriage rites. We had already called all our family members, uncles, aunts, cousins, etc., so no one agreed to go with him. We believed this would stop his plans but we were wrong. He found another way.

Few months later, someone came to tell us that my brother had done the traditional rites along with the traditional wedding at his bride’s place so they were now properly married. We were surprised because we knew no family member escorted him to her place so how did he pull it off. His childhood friend finally told us the truth – my brother, with their help, had hired people to act as his family members in the traditional marriage rites.  I couldn’t believe the extent he went to, just to marry that woman. We’re still wary of one another so the topic has never been broached. Maybe one day but not anytime soon.”
