Be wary of that overly friendly neighbor took on a whole new meaning for me recently

This couple had this friendly neighbor living two blocks from them. She came around often and their son liked her because she always got him small treats. One afternoon, she walked in as usual and after a short visit, she offered to take the small boy down the road for a treat. When they didn’t come back for hours, the woman began to worry. She went to the neighbor’s house and was informed that she moved out with her husband the week before.

With her co-tenants, they started searching for them but nothing came up. Desperately, they began to ask if anyone knew where the woman was from but no one knew. Then one of her co-tenants remembered that he knew the house of a man who visited her often and as late as it was, they all went to his place. The man told them where they were from and the next day, they travelled to her village in the east with some policemen. They were not there.

They began to ask questions of anyone and everyone until a few weeks after, someone came forward with information that they were seen in Calabar. They travelled to Calabar and with the help of the police, the couple was found but without their son. The lady confessed that they had sold him to some person in Ibadan. They rushed across country to Ibadan but when they found the buyer, he’d already sold the boy to some other person in another city. They moved again and got lucky this time as the woman who bought him kept him. She’d changed his name and enrolled him in school.

All these happened over a few months. Everyone involved was arrested. Theirs was the craziest story but it definitely made many even more wary of friendly neighbors.

Story was told by a third party
